Running mantra: That’s a terrible idea… I’m in!
How running has changed me:
Running (and physical activity in general) helps me channel my energy and enthusiasm and has always been central to my well-being. It has also opened the door to so many wild adventures and introduced me to some of my favorite people.
Why I joined RRC:
Great question; I think my wife signed me up? In all seriousness, having a community to belong to means everything to me. Anything worth doing is made better when surrounded by great people.
Why I run:
It’s an ubiquitous workout. It can be done nearly any time, anywhere, with (or without) anyone. Then there are the races, events, and relays. There is no greater way to spend a day (and sometimes night) than to be outside chasing something big. It’s Type II fun.
When I run:
Whenever I find time, which is often in the evenings after the kids are asleep. There’s something peaceful about a dark trail, and the city just feels different late at night. Some of my most memorable runs have been after midnight, when the rest of the world is asleep.
Where I run:
I’m fortunate to live close to the Douglas Trail and a number of big hills with bike paths to cruise up and down. On the weekends I try to hit the trails of Oxbow and Gamehaven, or the gravel roads around Lanesboro. Lately though it’s been the RAC’s indoor track as I recover from various foot ailments.
When I run, my must have:
My watch, and a pair of shoes. The rest is just protection from the weather.
My running goal:
This will make me sound old, but just staying active and happy. Injuries have derailed me over the past two years, and I’ve diversified into triathlons and skiing just to stay healthy and active. As badly as I want to chase my next ultramarathon finish, right now goal #1 is to do the next run.
